Get Help

You may not feel it in this moment but recovery is possible.
The Overcomers Place is a caring, connected, community for those overcoming any addiction. We provide a structured day program from Monday to Thursday for anyone wanting to work towards abstinence. We also run a supporters group once a week.
Our aim is to help YOU recover.
It all starts with asking for help. The Overcomers Place is now open to serve those hurting from ANY addiction by providing an accessible, effective and sustainable service for individuals and families to live beyond the harms and hurts of addiction in a new place of hope and healing.
“The process of learning how to stay sober and abstinent in a state of psychophysiological dysregulation is a process that brings with it a powerful sense of mastery, of triumph over what once felt impossible”.
Dr Janina Fisher
Accessible: The Overcomers Place is provided free of charge. The Overcomers Place provides a door of opportunity when the gift of desperation demands we change. An individual can self refer at that very moment of change. After an initial phone call or email, the individual is invited to attend an assessment. There is a one-off donation for this assessment.
During the assessment interview, specific goals for your recovery are determined collaboratively and an attendance contract agreed.Progress is reviewed throughout your attendance at The Overcomers Place.
Effective: The Overcomers Place provides an intensive structured day program from 10.30am to 2.30pm free of charge from Monday to Thursday. This day program is facilitated by specialised addiction counsellors trained at enhancing mutual aid through group therapy. Group work has been identified as the most effective service for recovery rates beyond three years abstinence by Dr John Kelly, Harvard Medical School.
Addiction destroys social connections. Yet our human biology is wired for social groups. Effective regular, titrated group work allows for a safe change process as it enables integration of new neural synapses that in turn support changed relational behaviours. The intensive group structure provides the extensive and necessary repetitive practice for these neural structures to be developed and maintained.
Additionally the 12 step principles are specifically addressed through a series of workshops and meetings available during your time at The Overcomers Place. The Thursday program is dedicated to 12 step work.
Sustainable: The Overcomers Place is supported and funded by a group of dedicated volunteers who have provided premises and administrative support so that our service can be free of charge to the individuals accessing recovery groups. Our costs are substantially smaller than those incurred by comparative residential facilities as we do not provide accommodation. The Overcomers Place is non residential and our services are provided within the community. Attendance commitments are individually tailored in the initial assessment.
Prior to acceptance into the program, you must book an initial assessment with one of the specialised counsellors at The Overcomers Place. This involves a structured interview and psychometric assessments.
